Handing Over of Road Rehabilitation and Construction Project Phase 1

 The handing over of the Vanuatu Road Rehabilitation and Construction Project by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) is slated for Sunday, January 6, 2019.

The announcement comes as the Contractor and Designer for the Vanuatu Road Rehabilitation and Construction Project Phase 1, CCECC successfully completed the project on Malekula and Tanna.

The total area of work for each project is 45KM, with a period of five years beginning 2015-2020.

CCECC spokesperson, Lillyrose Welwel, reiterated that on the Island of Tanna the contractor has constructed a total of 30KM of road from White Grass to Green Point, consisting of Double Bitumen Surface Treatment (DBST) and Concrete Pavement.

“These included the erection of 62 box culverts, slab culverts and six bridges,” she said.

The project covered a total of 15KM on the island of Malekula, around Norsup and Lakatoro, with Double Bitumen Surface Treatment and 19 Culverts.

Ms Welwel said the contractor commenced the construction of the project in 2015 and concluded it in 2018.

“The Vanuatu Road Rehabilitation and Construction Project phase 1 is supervised by the Ministry of Public Works and is a Loan from China’s Exim Bank with the total of 350 Million RMB (approximately Vt5.6 billion),” she said.

“CCECC wishes to acknowledge communities on Malekula and Tanna for their understanding and cooperation with us since the beginning to the end of the road project.”
